Achievements:
1) Public land acquisition for future possible Fire Stations, based on the 2022 Fire Alternative Needs Analysis. However, the sites could be utilized by the city for purposes deemed necessary in future years such as parks, green space, city utilities or other uses deemed fitting for the city
2) Safety Improvements for crosswalks such as flashing lights. City staff will coordinate with the police and Public Works Department to identify vehicle and pedestrian safety improvements on City roadways with items similar to flashing pedestrian crosswalks, electronic speed signs and any other industry leading technology to increase safety.
3) Odor control for Sewer Plant and some lift station locations. City Staff will continue to work with our engineering team, contractors and vendors to provide short-term and long-term implementations for improving the odor related to the City’s wastewater treatment plant site.
4) Sidewalk Improvements. The city has budgeted funds to continue to inspect, maintain and replace sidewalks in West Melbourne with a focus on pedestrian safety and continued walkability of our neighborhoods and access to our commercial areas.
5) Streetsweeper for neighborhoods without curbs. The city will evaluate options for our monthly street sweeping program, including working with our current contractor whose contract expires at the end of 2025. Additionally, staff will evaluate the purchase of a City streetsweeper and provide a cost benefit analysis for purchasing versus contracting for the service. City Staff will also explore grant opportunities to help offset a purchase.
6) Electronic speed signs for Heritage Oaks Blvd. and evaluate other beneficial locations. The purchase of additional solar speed signage and other technology to address the safety concerns of residential areas within our community with the goal of improving traffic and pedestrian safety
